Stages of Accreditation

Accreditation of entry-level paramedic education programs have 3 stages:

Preliminary approval:

Preliminary approval of a new entry-level paramedic education program  should be sought prior to the commencement of teaching the course and approval is normally granted prior to, or commensurate with, the entry of the first cohort into the program.

Provisional accreditation:

A new program that has been granted preliminary approval will be eligible for provisional accreditation after the first year of teaching, subject to successful annual review.  Provisional accreditation may also be granted where conditions are attached following assessment for full accreditation.*

Full accreditation:

A program is eligible for full accreditation for a period of 5 years after the first cohort of graduates have at least 12 months of practice experience following graduation.*

*Graduates from fully accredited programs will be given preference for employment over non accredited programs, subject to all other employment conditions being met with the individual employer.
